Warrandyte Copper House

While producing a master plan, responding to the owners' brief to extend and renovate an existing home on a large, sloping, site, it was identified early that while the existing house was quite well planned, its visual and physical outlook to the poolside and external areas could be greatly improved. Our strategy was to work with the bones and character of the existing home, while proposing a series of interventions in a play of 'give and take' with the house and surrounds. This is a house for family.

A builder was contracted to undertake initial 'stage 0.5' works in 2011, installing oak flooring within the family room and hall areas with selected adjacent works to improve the amenity and circulation of the house. Stage 1 works, comprising an extension to the existing family room, a new copper clad bathroom a renovation of the rumpus room to create a multi-purpose space for living, laundry, study, Lego station and storage. Exterior BBQ area and poolside works comprise a raised, irregular stepped deck with an interconnecting canopy structure, carved natural siltstone reef wall, drainage works and natural stone paving.
