Albert Park Stage 2. This project represents the first and second of three stages, preconceived in an earlier produced master plan. The first stage comprised new kitchen (view here) the second stage shown here comprises an extension of study and renovation of the courtyard end of the house. The functional brief was to replace the kitchen, provide adjacent dining area, cozy second living area, study, shed, rain water harvesting and courtyard landscape works. Future (stage 3) works will comprise a reconfiguration of the existing main bedroom to incorporate walk in robe, Ensuite, roof storage along with a renovated bathroom and laundry. Theperformance & stylistic brief was to minimize visual clutter, maximize natural sunlight, provide improved visual and physical access to the courtyard (outlook), improve the appearance and functionality of the courtyard. This is a project of restraint. It picks up on cues from the original double fronted Victorian cottage, retaining key historic features, while introducing a contemporary extension that aims to complement rather than compete with the existing house adding as few elements as possible to achieve the result. This project is featured in "Houses for Small Spaces"edited by Gary Tackle. view here
